This full-day journey invites guests deep into the heart of Eysturoy, blending dramatic mountain landscapes, authentic village life, and one of the Faroe Islands’ most atmospheric valleys. Carefully designed for cruise guests seeking a rich yet unhurried experience, the tour offers meaningful encounters and some of the islands’ most striking scenery.
Departing the harbour by comfortable coach, we travel north through ever-changing landscapes of mountains, valleys, and fjords. Our first stop is Saksun, one of the Faroe Islands’ most iconic and secluded villages, nestled at the end of a broad glacial valley and surrounded by steep, soaring mountains.
In Saksun, guests enjoy an exclusive private guided visit to the historic farm and its surroundings, including an interior visit to the small 19th-century church overlooking the tidal lagoon. Time is set aside to explore the landscape, hear stories of life in this remote settlement—past and present—and to absorb the silence and scale that make Saksun so unforgettable.
Leaving Saksun, the journey continues across Eysturoy to the Risin and Kellingin viewpoint near Slættaratindur. Here, we pause for photos and panoramic views of the legendary sea stacks rising dramatically from the Atlantic, linked to one of the Faroe Islands’ most beloved folk tales.
Our next destination is Gjógv, a charming village renowned for its natural harbour carved directly into the rock. Guests enjoy a relaxed walk through the village, along the gorge that gives Gjógv its name, and down to the harbour, where the power of the Atlantic meets the land in a setting that feels both dramatic and intimate.
On the return journey, we pass through the Eysturoyar Subsea Tunnel—an experience in itself—offering a glimpse into modern Faroese engineering beneath the North Atlantic.
The day is thoughtfully paced to balance storytelling, scenery, and time simply to be present in these remarkable places. This tour provides a deep and authentic introduction to Streymoy and Eysturoy, ideal for guests who wish to understand not only the landscapes of the Faroe Islands, but also the lives shaped by them.
