Discover Oslo’s Jewish heritage through an intimate historical experience led by a published author, combining the city’s best-known landmarks with stories and places often missed by larger groups.
Meet your guide, the author of the photo guidebook “Unretouched History. Footsteps of Jewish History in Oslo,” and begin a themed walk through the city centre. Learn why Jewish settlement in Norway began relatively late, discover the story of the first Jewish family to establish a permanent home in Oslo, and explore how the community developed through different periods of the city’s history.
The route connects Oslo’s main landmarks - including the fortress, City Hall and Karl Johans gate - with hidden corners and lesser-known historical sites that reveal another side of the Norwegian capital. Along the way, hear surprising stories about Jewish life in Oslo, including the connection between David Ben-Gurion and the city.
Historical photographs accompany the experience, allowing you to compare present-day Oslo with images from the past and understand how its Jewish places, communities and traditions have changed over time.
With expert storytelling, archival images and a thoughtfully designed walking route, this tour offers a personal and meaningful introduction to Jewish Oslo. At the end of the experience, you may remain in the city centre to continue exploring independently or return to the cruise pier with your guide.
