This tour is perfect for lovers of delicious wine and beautiful architecture. The tour begins with an interesting sightseeing of the region, accompanied by beautiful nature at the window and an endless series of vineyards.

The first stop is the village of Capalbio in the province of Grosseto. It is also called the little Athens because of its location and the historical and artistic importance it had during the Renaissance period. Capalbio is located in the south of Tuscany on a hill covered by the typical Maremma macchia. The municipality has been awarded the 5 sails and is ranked first in the Blue Guide for the welcome and the quality of the area. You will have enough time to immerse yourself in the local rhythm of life and experience all the beauty of the architecture.

Then after a short transfer arrive in the Monteverro winery where the chic tasting in Tuscany is waiting for you! Monteverro is named after the wild boar: verro is the historical regional word for "wild boar" - a reference to the fact that the scrubland around Capalbio has always been and still is home to many wild boars.

The estate where the tasting will take place is distinguished by its characteristic slopes of stony red clay soil: the particularity of this place is the passion they have for wine production, from the harvesting of the grapes to the phase of choosing the grains to use those to discard in order to obtain every year the maximum expression of vinification. Only the best corks are chosen for these wines. A team of specialists examines every single cork in search of those molecules that cause an organoleptic deviation.

The estate extends over three hills in an area of about 60 hectares. Climbing the hills, the vineyards give way to the “macchia mediterranea“, the typical vegetation consisting of numerous evergreen shrubs and aromatic herbs including lavender, broom, rosemary and thyme. This is also the habitat of various animal species, the undisputed king of which is the wild boar.

One of the local experts will take you on a discovery of the part of the cellar that has been built into the slope, to take advantage of the natural refrigeration of an underground structure. When the wine cellar was built, the primary objective was to process the grapes in as natural and environmentally friendly a way as possible, using the force of gravity: here, sustainable agriculture, manual labor and state-of-the-art technology all come together.

You will also have the opportunity to stroll through the vineyards: visitors can see for themselves the high mineral content of this terroir and observe at close quarters the conspicuously red clay soil, scattered with pebbles of various sizes as you walk along the path leading to a viewpoint above the vineyards, bordered by a natural earth and rock wall covered with Mediterranean scrub. This evergreen vegetation, which extends for kilometers to the north of the estate, is a veritable paradise of biodiversity.

This is followed by a final tasting with local cold cuts and cheeses and tasting of the 6 wines from the production:

The Whites:

  • IL VERMENTINO: with a delicate mineral scent and perfume of herbs and summer flowers, quince and pear.
  • LO CHARDONNAY: although originating from Burgundy, from which it derives its distinctive characteristics, this Chardonnay is a DOC Tuscan.

The Reds:

  • IL VERRUZZO: a wine of character, full of aromas and Italian elegance.
  • IL TERRA DI MONTEVERRO: the flagship of their production which, even when young, proves to be extremely enjoyable and wins you over with its aromas of Mediterranean scrub and fruity notes of cherry and red fruits.
  • IL TINATA: decisive, rich in aromatic notes, but at the same time distinctly soft and elegant.
  • IL MONTEVERRO: a true premier grand crew of the Maremma.

During the tour, you will not only learn about the winemaking process, but also about the people who produce these incomparable wines.

After the tasting, you will have free time to enjoy the local views and nature before returning to the port.
